How to select RFID equipment for vehicle management projects?

Release Time:2020-07-29

According to different application scenarios, the choice of different RFID equipment will have a great impact on the use of the whole project, and the selection of RFID equipment will become a key part of the success of the project. At present, the three hardware devices that make up the RFID technology system include RFID electronic tags, RFID characteristics and RFID readers. Today, we will analyze how to select RFID equipment with the project of vehicle management.

About RFID electronic tag selection

First, consider the identification distance of RFID tags. The approximate range of the required recognition distance is determined by an actual application scenario. The distance of RFID identification should be an important factor to consider. For different distances, the choice of equipment, especially electronic tags, is very different, mainly reflected in the working frequency of the tag. In vehicle management, it is necessary to fully consider the distance range of vehicle identification when obtaining vehicle tag information. The distance cannot be too close to cause "group reading" phenomenon, and cannot be too far to cause misreading phenomenon. Among them, special attention should be paid to the distance between the RFID reader and the vehicle deployed to read the electronic tag information when the car enters and exits the garage, because this link not only involves the acquisition of vehicle status information, but also involves the statistics of garage vehicle information.

Second, consider the directionality of reading the RFID electronic tag. Considering the characteristics of vehicle logistics, the logistics operation management of these vehicles is basically the same as the production line, whether it is the assembly link under the vehicle production line, or the link where the vehicle enters and exits each vehicle road or dealer. Due to the technical characteristics of RFID, RFID can read multiple tags at the same time. However, this requires adjustment when information collection is carried out in each physical link of vehicle logistics, and the reading of vehicle electronic tag information should also be carried out one by one in accordance with the principle of order. Therefore, to take into account the directionality of the tag reading, the higher the requirement for the order of reading, the stronger the directionality of the corresponding reading.

Finally, through a comprehensive analysis of the general situation in vehicle management, it is required that the collection distance of vehicle information is basically within 1-10 meters. If the distance of identification and collection is too large, it is not conducive to management operation, and too small is not conducive to distance control between vehicles. Therefore, from the perspective of distance factors, the operating frequency of electronic tags that meet this condition should be ultra-high frequency. According to the current use of this band, typical frequencies are 433.92MHz and 862(902) -928MHz. In addition, because vehicle management has high requirements on the quality and life of the tag, passive tags can be selected. Passive tags are small in size and light in weight, and can be made into various shapes and installed on the car body as required.

About RFID Antenna Selection

In vehicle management, serial reading of adjacent tags is often encountered. In order to prevent group reading of vehicle information, when the reader and the tag work, the reader can only read one electronic tag on the vehicle at a time as much as possible. To meet this requirement, in addition to controlling the installation and placement position of RFID reader antenna and realizing it through physical means, it is more important to select the polarization mode of the antenna. The polarization modes of the antenna include linear polarization and circular polarization. The installation direction of the tags in similar projects is basically the same, so the linearly polarized antenna can be selected. The beam angle of the E-plane or H-plane of the linearly polarized antenna can reach 30 degrees, so the radiation is very narrow, which well solves the problem of string reading of adjacent tags.

About RFID Reader Selection

After determining the operating frequency of the RFID system and the polarization mode of the reader antenna in the entire vehicle management, the selection of the reader is relatively fixed. With the development of RFID technology, the price of the reader will be further reduced, the performance will be further improved, and the reader equipment will develop in the direction of modularization and intelligence. In vehicle management, the main use is a fixed reader. RFID reader is used in vehicle management to realize vehicle identity discrimination and automatic deduction. If a long-distance RFID reader is used, a fast channel without parking or card taking can be realized, or an unattended channel, or an unmanned electronic detection of the entry and exit of the vehicle.
