The bar code printer of thermal transfer mode needs a special ribbon to print information such as bar code and text on the label. This special ribbon (commonly known as ribbon), generally by the base film, heat-resistant coating, ink coating and other three parts.

On the thermal transfer printer, the heat-resistant coating is in direct contact with the thermal transfer head, and the thermal transfer ink is in direct contact with the substrate (label). When the thermal transfer head is working, the heat of the heat release point is transmitted to the thermal transfer ink coating through the heat-resistant coating and the base film. The ink is melted and hot stamped on the substrate to form text and images. The high quality ribbon has no residue of heat transfer ink on the heated part after its transfer.
The carbon belt can be divided into inner carbon and outer carbon from the winding mode. The inner carbon refers to the side with ink in contact with the shaft on the carbon belt, and the outer carbon refers to the side without ink in contact with the shaft. General bar code printer two kinds of carbon ribbon can be used, only individual printers can only use the carbon ribbon inside and or outside the fixed carbon.
The carbon ribbon is also divided into flat-press carbon ribbon and side-press carbon ribbon from the print head of the printer, which are suitable for flat-press printers and side-press printers respectively. The two ribbons cannot be mixed. The ribbon is divided into three types from the chemical composition (material): wax-based, mixed-based and resin-based.
Generally, wax-based carbon belt refers to carbon belt with 70% paraffin wax ratio, mixed-based carbon belt refers to carbon belt with 50% paraffin wax and 50% tree ratio respectively, and resin-based carbon belt refers to carbon belt with less than 50% paraffin wax ratio. Wax-based ribbon has the characteristics of high sensitivity, high resolution, high density, etc., and has wide applicability, such as plain paper, coated paper, rough paper, smooth paper, coated paper, synthetic paper, etc.; mixed-based ribbon has stain resistance, High definition, high resolution, with wide applicability, suitable for various labels, such as coated paper, smooth paper, coated paper, synthetic paper, PET, PVC, etc; resin-based ribbon has high-quality scratch resistance, stain resistance, solvent resistance, high resolution, etc. It is suitable for labels of various materials, especially various polyester and plastic labels, such as synthetic paper, PVC, PET, water-washed labels, etc.
Note: Generally speaking, the ribbon is fixed length, generally the most commonly used length is 300 meters, in addition to 80 meters and 600 meters long products. The choice of carbon tape is to consider the material of bar code printer and adhesive label. If the cooperation is not good, the ideal printing effect may not be achieved. In the choice of ribbon, the general width of the ribbon will be slightly wider than the label, the purpose of doing so is to protect the print head. For example, when we print a 65mm wide label, we usually choose a 70mm wide ribbon.
